Uganda’s constitution, alongside a number of laws, articulates a commitment to attain gender equality. However, bridging the gap between policy and practice remains the challenge of our times. RUFODE recognizes that there is no economic, social, or environmental justice without gender justice. We mainstream gender in our programming to promote women’s rights in the areas of governance and accountability, resilience livelihoods, and humanitarian preparedness and response
Violence against women and girls is a human rights violation. Women experience forms of violence throughout their lifetime – from domestic abuse to sexual assault, female genital mutilation, and child, early and forced marriages. By promoting gender equality and strengthening women’s rights, we are enhancing their social-cultural, economic and political status.
RUFODE’S programmes are dedicated to peace and security in the lives of women, economic empowerment and strengthening women’s participation and representation in leadership and decision making processes. RUFODE, addresses the dangers of stigma, gender-based violence, drug misuse, and poverty. We are passionate about advocating for the rights and well-being of vulnerable and minority groups in our communities.
Our team of experienced and qualified counsellors, therapists, and mental health doctors provide therapeutic tele-counselling services across our thematic areas covering; substance misuse, sexual abuse, and other forms of gender-based violence (GBV). counselling and other psychosocial support services.
We understand the importance of media in advocacy, hence we are big on media engagement and programming for media engagement on women issues.
Our Gender Justice and Women’s Rights work aims
- To work with marginalized women and girls, social movements, and partners to challenge and transform social norms that perpetuate violence against women and girls.
- To strengthen movements and allies to prevent and respond to violence against women and girls, including supporting access to justice and public interest litigation
- To influence policies among government, companies and CSOs to value and recognize women’s unpaid care roles
- To hold government accountable to local, national, regional, and international women’s rights commitments by working with other CSOs to monitor and report on progress
- To create safe spaces for feminists to convene, bringing together older and younger feminists to chart the future of women’s rights in Uganda and support the growth of feminist organizations
- To promote education and access to sexual reproductive health rights services for girls and young people to stem teenage and early pregnancies
